MORE INFORMATION
Lostland is a story worth telling: determined to imbibe inspiration from a more authentic atmosphere, Mauro Gioia crossed the ocean to better savour the stories of those foreigners who left their homeland and all they had behind, forced to start anew, overcome language barriers and adapt to a new culture. This is also where the idea matured of forming an Italian American band: Mark Plati, Lisa Germano, Earl Sick, Jack Petruzzelli and Jerry Marotta.
The album’s sound is timeless, bringing reminiscences of American rock music from the 70’s and 80’s, such as Elvis Costello, David Bowie (with whom Mark Plati and Earl Slick often collaborate) and Tom Waits in his early career. Lostland is a project with two sides: a music album and a documentary film written by Gioia (an Italian-French coproduction Jando Music, 4x4 France and RaiCinema) that narrate the drama of immigration. “I wanted to tell a choral story – the story of many men, women and children – but also the story of overwhelming solitude. So I thought a single actor could embody the lives and destinies of these migrants. Burt Young was perfect, not only for his Italian origins but for the range of his emotional expressiveness and ability to tackle multiple roles.”
